Purpose

The CNC Programmer is responsible for all aspects of the machining workflow, including process development, fixture and work-holding design, 5-axis CNC programming, machining, inspection, and general shop activities. This role will support the development and production of for automotive, aerospace, and defense applications.

As a technical expert in machining, the CNC Programmer will develop and implement innovative machining and fabrication technologies, collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams, and help advance new concepts through testing, validation, and the patent process.

The Role

Programming & Simulation

• Analyze new parts and develop machining strategies, tooling approaches, and work-holding concepts, while providing Design for Manufacturability (DFM) recommendations.

• Utilize Siemens NX CAM to develop, verify, and simulate 3+2 and 5-axis milling programs for first-article components and production runs.

• Produce probing programs utilizing MSP Perfect-Part for locating and on-machine verification.

• Program trunnion and gantry-style CNC machines, including advanced 5-axis operations.

• Generate comprehensive shop floor documentation, including detailed setup sheets, operator instructions, and tool lists to ensure seamless production handoffs.

• Interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T principles to programming, machining, and inspection activities.

• Execute advanced machining projects supporting additive manufacturing programs.

Engineering & Design

• Design and develop fixture and work-holding solutions for R&D and high-rate production using Siemens NX CAD and established manufacturing best practices.

• Collaborate with vehicle and component engineering teams to provide manufacturing insights and DFM recommendations during new product and program development.

• Develop and implement innovative machining, fabrication, and work-holding solutions, including applications related to additive manufacturing.

• Test and validate new machining processes and technologies, refining concepts based on results and manufacturing requirements.

• Contribute to the development of new manufacturing technologies and assist with documenting and advancing innovations through the patent process.

Shop Support & Innovation

• Provide hands-on support for first-article components, including CNC setup, machining, inspection, troubleshooting, and process refinement.

• Apply practical machining expertise to resolve manufacturing challenges and improve process capability, quality, and efficiency.

• Assist with general shop activities as needed and collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to support program objectives.

• Maintain strict adherence to MES requirements, manufacturing processes, safety procedures, and shop standards.

Basic Qualifications

• Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls

• Proficiency in CNC programming, setup, and machining, with a strong focus on complex 5-axis milling.

• Experience programming and operating CNC equipment, including the use of dynamic work offsets.

• Strong understanding of machining processes, materials, cutting tools, and tooling best practices.

• Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and applying GD&T principles.

• Familiarity with machine shop safety protocols and best practices.

• Ability to perform light fabrication, use hand tools, and operate manual mills and lathes.

• Experience using standard metrology and inspection tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency with Siemens NX CAD/CAM.

• Siemens Team Center, MSP probing software

• Experience with Siemens and Heidenhain controllers.

• Experience with pallet systems.

• Develop machining strategies for complex first-article components.

• General understanding of automotive and aerospace systems.

• Experience with additive manufacturing and related machining or fabrication processes.

• Hands on experience in Aerospace production environment

Work Environment

• Shop floor: Machine operation, handling parts, exposure to high noise levels and varying temperature conditions.

• Desk work: Programming, Design, Shop documentation and Engineering collaboration.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to bend, reach, lift to 50 lbs., and remain standing for extended periods.

Compensation

At Divergent, our pay range is based on the level of the job. For this role, we will consider candidates at levels S03 - S05 as evaluated through our interview process.

• S03 / Specialist III: $49.63 – $60.65

• S04 / Specialist IV: $57.32 – $70.06

• S05 Specialist V: $66.22 – $80.93

Pay Range

$49.63 — $80.93 USD
