Title:  Senior Quality Engineer, Korea

Level: Senior individual contributor, comparable to 과장 at Korean companies

Employment Type:  Permanent, full-time (정규직)

Travel:  Up to 75%, mainly supplier facilities in South Korea; occasional international travel

Probation:  3 Months

Position summary

The Senior Quality Engineer, Korea is ON.energy's local quality representative at Korean suppliers. The role covers equipment quality from manufacturing and factory testing through delivery, installation, and commissioning.

This individual contributor role focuses on product inspections, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), non-conformance resolution, and project quality support. It also covers supplier qualification, process audits, and supplier improvement.

You will work with Engineering, Supply Chain, Construction, and Commissioning. Together you will verify that transformers, batteries, PCS/inverters, switchgear, control cabinets, and auxiliary equipment meet approved drawings, specifications, and acceptance criteria.

Product quality engineering responsibilities

• Plan and perform in-process, final, and pre-shipment inspections at supplier facilities. Verify workmanship, dimensions, assembly, wiring, labeling, and compliance with approved drawings and specifications.

• Review Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), FAT procedures, and acceptance criteria with Engineering. Confirm hold points, witness points, test readiness, and inspection coverage.

• Coordinate and witness FATs at OEM facilities. Perform assigned inspections within your training and authorization, verify test records and equipment calibration, and document results and deviations.

• Identify, document, and track Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and punch-list items. Coordinate containment, repair or rework, reinspection, and retesting with suppliers and internal teams.

• Verify corrective actions and closure evidence before shipment. Escalate unresolved issues and give shipment-readiness recommendations to the designated release authority.

• Review serial-number traceability, material certificates, inspection reports, FAT results, and certificates of conformity. Maintain complete, traceable equipment quality packages.

• Support receiving inspections, installation surveillance, Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and commissioning readiness at project sites as assigned. Investigate transit damage and equipment defects.

• Provide timely inspection reports and quality status updates, and flag risks to FAT and delivery commitments.

• Follow site safety rules and approved procedures during all inspections and testing, including supplier and site safety training.

Supplier quality engineering responsibilities

• Support supplier selection, evaluation, qualification, and onboarding with Engineering and Supply Chain, using ON.energy's supplier quality processes.

• Conduct targeted supplier process and quality-system audits. Document findings, track corrective actions, and verify their effectiveness.

• Assess manufacturing controls, control plans, process risk assessments, and first article inspection records as they apply to each equipment type and project.

• Drive supplier root-cause analysis and lasting corrective actions for recurring or systemic defects, and share lessons learned to prevent repeat issues.

• Maintain supplier quality records and scorecard inputs, and contribute to ISO 9001-aligned processes, inspection templates, and continuous improvement.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Quality Engineering, or a closely related technical field.

• 5+ years of product, manufacturing, field, or supplier quality engineering experience in energy, electrical power equipment, or industrial manufacturing.

• Hands-on experience inspecting electrical power equipment and witnessing factory acceptance tests, and evaluating results against approved procedures and acceptance criteria.

• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, equipment specifications, and ITPs.

• Experience managing NCRs, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, reinspection, and quality documentation.

• Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and quality tools such as 8D, 5 Why, PFMEA, control plans, and first article inspection.

• Ability to work independently at supplier facilities, prioritize inspections, and communicate quality risks clearly to suppliers and cross-functional teams.

• Professional working proficiency in Korean and English, including technical discussions and written inspection reports.

• Willingness to travel up to 75%, mainly to supplier facilities in South Korea, with international travel as required.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with BESS equipment, medium-voltage transformers, PCS/inverters, switchgear, or integrated power equipment, including work with Korean OEMs.

• Korean national technical licenses such as 전기기사 (Electrical Engineer) or 품질경영기사 (Quality Management Engineer).

• ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification, or VDA 6.3 audit experience.

• Familiarity with IEC, IEEE, UL, and NEC requirements and equipment test protocols for the project market, plus KS/KC standards used by Korean suppliers.

• Experience supporting installation, commissioning, supplier process audits, SPC, or PPAP.

• Experience with digital inspection platforms, document-control systems, NCR tracking tools, and quality dashboards.
